Characteristics of Dangerous Scenarios between Vehicles Turning Right and Pedestrians under Left-Hand Traffic

چکیده
Pedestrian deaths account for the highest percentage of fatality caused by traffic accidents in Japan. Increasing pedestrian safety is a key objective reducing such deaths. For vehicles at low speed, turning vehicle toward right was most common behavior under left-hand traffic. Autonomous emergency braking (AEB) systems have great potential to mitigate injuries and fatalities accidents. However, pedestrian-AEB systems, especially right, are still development. This study identified characteristics dangerous scenarios between pedestrians, focusing on two directions crossing: from left side (Left-Pedestrian) (Right-Pedestrian). The ego recorded near-miss incidents using drive recorder. results revealed that Left-Pedestrian Right-Pedestrian had different features both width roads going through intersection average travel speeds vehicles. They similar terms presence other categories, but differences relationship numbers and/or findings this will contribute development evaluation preventing collisions right-turning pedestrians intersections.

Effect of Gap Acceptance Behavior of the Right Turning Vehicles on the Major Road Stream for Uncontrolled Three-Legged Intersections under Mixed Traffic Conditions
Uncontrolled intersections are the intersections where there are no external signs or signals to control the movement of vehicles. In mixed traffic conditions priority rules are often violated by the road users. In All-way-stop-controlled intersections (AWSC), the vehicle should stop themselves before they enter the intersection and should check whether any vehicles are present in the other app...
متن کاملGap Acceptance Models for Left-turning Vehicles Facing Pedestrians at Signalized Crosswalks
Pedestrian-vehicle conflicts are considered as one of the most common safety problems at signalized intersections. The threat to pedestrian safety is mainly related to the interaction with turning vehicles, especially left-turners (left-hand traffic). This paper aims at analyzing the lag/gap acceptance behavior of left-turning vehicles considering pedestrian movement at signalized crosswalks. F...
متن کاملIntent Communication between Autonomous Vehicles and Pedestrians
When pedestrians encounter vehicles, they typically stop and wait for a signal from the driver to either cross or wait. What happens when the car is autonomous and there isn’t a human driver to signal them? This paper seeks to address this issue with an intent communication system (ICS) that acts in place of a human driver. This intent system has been developed to take into account the psycholo...
متن کاملA Comparative Analysis between Right and Left Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernias
Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a rare congenital anomaly of the diaphragm with an incidence of 1:2000-5000 of live births. This study retrospectively evaluated patients who had been operated on for CDH at our department of Pediatric Surgery between January 2013 and December 2016. The Demographic Data and outcomes of right CDH cases (Group 1) were compared with left CDH cases (Group 2).
متن کاملDynamic Characteristics of Traffic Flow with Consideration of the Pedestrians’
Pedestrians' road-crossing behavior can often interrupt traffic flow and cause vehicles queueing. In this paper, we propose some moving rules for modeling the interaction of vehicles and pedestrians. The modified visual angle car-following model is presented for the movement of vehicles with consideration of the lateral effect of waiting pedestrians. The pedestrians' behavior is summarized as c...
